Unlocking The Future: How New York Can Tap Into $5 Billion For Energy Efficiency

April 9, 2024

Join a compelling panel discussion tomorrow, April 10, 2024, at 12:00 PM EDT, as environmental justice advocates, experts, and public officials convene.

All this to explore unlocking $5 billion in funding through the New Efficiency: New York (NENY) program.

Hosted by New Yorkers for Clean Power, this hour-long virtual event titled “Unlocking the Power of NENY – New Efficiency: New York From Proceeding to Practice” will delve into strategies for equitably upgrading homes and buildings across the state over the next five years.

The conversation will address the critical gaps in current programs aimed at improving weatherization and implementing highly efficient electric heat pumps, particularly in reaching low-income households. Despite the potential benefits of energy upgrades, many New Yorkers continue to face disproportionately high energy bills, hindering progress toward ambitious climate goals set forth in the 2019 Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA).

Panelists will share insights on necessary programmatic changes to enhance equity and accessibility within New York’s weatherization and building electrification initiatives. They will provide an overview of the NENY proceeding and encourage individuals to offer essential feedback on the program ahead of the April 15, 2024, deadline.

Panelists Include:

  • Eric Walker, Energy Justice Senior Policy Manager at WE ACT for Environmental Justice
  • Chris Coll, Project Director, Low-to-Moderate Income and Disadvantaged Communities at the New York Department of Public Service
  • Judith Karpova, Green Pathway Consultants
  • Lynda Nguyen, Program Manager at Kinetic Communities Consulting (KC3)
