National Volunteer Week: New York Cares Offers Volunteer Roles For Community Support

During National Volunteer Week (April 21-27), New York Cares, New York City’s largest volunteer network.

Will offer over 200 volunteer opportunities that will engage more than one thousand volunteers to serve thousands of individuals in need across all five boroughs.  This week — and all year round — New York Cares encourages New Yorkers to dedicate time to volunteer projects that address the city’s greatest needs to create meaningful change in local communities.  Projects include distributing meals to those experiencing food insecurity, revitalizing parks and gardens, teaching local students how to play chess, and much more. 

Featured volunteer opportunities for media to attend in Manhattan are:

Monday, April 22 – MANHATTAN

  • Environmental Stewardship on Earth Day at Marcus Garvey Park
    1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

More than 200 corporate volunteers from Cartier, Lazard, Warner Music Group, and Equitable, together with New York Cares staff, will promote environmental sustainability and keep outdoor spaces clean, safe, and beautiful for residents to enjoy year-round. Project activities include planting flowers, building wooden garden beds, mulching, painting park benches and fences and removing invasive species.

Tuesday, April 23 – MANHATTAN

  • Run a Free Store with Little Shop of Kindness
    12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

New York Cares volunteers will help sort donations, assist customers, and run the shop to provide free supplies to migrants and asylum seekers.

Tuesday, April 23 — MANHATTAN

  • Fitness Training with Wheeling Forward
    4:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

New York Cares volunteers will assist adults in wheelchairs as they get their fitness on! Volunteers will guide participants through various dancing and boxing exercises.
