VoteRunLead Statement On Midterm Election Results 2018

November 7, 2018

The 2018 midterm elections represent a historic moment for our country and a new era for women and politics in America. VoteRunLead has worked for 15 years to empower women to run for office as they are. Last night’s election results prove what we have always known to be true: women are incredible leaders with the diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and experience that our country needs and wants to see represented in government.

Congratulations to the 118 women (and counting!) who will be heading to Congress, and thank you to the more than 3,000 women who ran across the country this year, signaling to the world that leaders come from many backgrounds, whether they are young, old, gay, bisexual, transgender, Black, Latinx, Native American, Muslim, Asian or otherwise.

We’d like to extend a special congratulations to a few of our VoteRunLead alums who made history last night, including Representatives-elect Ilhan Omar, the first Somali American and one of the first Muslim women elected, and Lauren Underwood, the youngest African American woman ever elected to the United States Congress, and our own National Training Director Faith Winter who is heading to the Colorado State Senate.
