Harlem loves Disney for all work its done in Harlem from donating $1 million to the Harlem Boys & Girls Club, to bringing Luke Cage in Harlem, to the NY State. Now, in honor of Micky Mouse’s 90th birthday, Disney has partnered with Fermob!
Who is Fermob? Fermob is the colorful French outdoor furniture maker, to re-imagine Fermob’s ubiquitous Bistro Chair into an homage to the famous cartoon mouse. As a result, Disney and Fermob staged a “Chair Takeover” near the famed TKTS Booth in NYC’s Times Square on Sunday, November 18th, 2018.
Thousands of visitors to Times Square were treated to a unique Mickey Mouse experience and many stopped to enjoy the temporary installation, which was artfully arranged in the shape of Mickey’s head and ears.
Disney has partnered with Fermob to design a collection to mark Mickey Mouse’s 90th birthday – a partnership that exemplifies what the world’s most famous mouse and the French outdoor furniture brand have in common – a taste for joie de vivre and a passion for color.
The coming-together was made possible by designer Terence Conran, one of Fermob’s designers. The brief was simple: design a chair and release it to coincide with the 90th birthday of the world’s most famous mouse. The challenge was set and Bernard Reybier, Fermob’s CEO, couldn’t wait to get started.
“Disney wanted us to do something creative with this new product, not simply put together a collection with images of Mickey Mouse on it. We’re manufacturers with a penchant for design, so this project was right up our alley!” said Fermob CEO Bernard Reybier, “We also share a passion for color. We’ve all seen that famous image of Walt Disney putting crayon to paper and giving life to characters that would go on to enchant entire generations the world over. And at Fermob, we were the inventor of color in the garden, breaking with conventional green and white furniture.”
