SOMOS Community Care Congratulates Mayor-Elect Eric Adams

November 2, 2021

“We send an ecstatic congratulations to Eric Adams on his election as New York City’s next mayor.

Mayor-elect Adams will come into office at a decisive moment in New York’s history, facing both massive inequality and once-in-a-generation opportunities to create real change for New Yorkers.

“Over the last 20 months, the COVID-19 pandemic highlighted unbearable disparities in our nation’s and our city’s healthcare systems. The stark reality is that New Yorkers of color were far more likely to catch COVID, be hospitalized, and die than their white neighbors. These inequities were present far before COVID-19 and will continue long after the pandemic unless we take decisive action to improve access to preventative care and address the social determinants of health that continue to keep communities of color from the American Dream.

“Mayor-elect Adams has fought for the communities we serve throughout his career and has long advocated for smart, preventative care and health access. During the pandemic, SOMOS Community Care has shown New York what a new model of community-based care can achieve – from administering 1.5 million vaccine doses to hosting hundreds of trilingual testing sites – and we look forward to partnering with the Adams Administration to bolster health and social equity for all New Yorkers.”
