Open House Weekend An Apollo 80th Anniversary Celebration

In celebration of African-American History Month and our 80th Anniversary, the Apollo Theater will open its doors for a Free Weekend to give visitors an understanding of our rich history, a preview of our future activities, and an honoring of a few of the “family members” that have helped us get to this point. 

The Niggerati Manor In Harlem

The Niggerati was the name used, with deliberate irony, by Wallace Thurman for the group of young African American artists and intellectuals of the Harlem Renaissance. “Niggerati” is a portmanteau of “nigger” and “literati”.

Agreement Protects Affordable Housing and Tenants’ Rights

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced a major settlement agreement that will help make communities more just and affordable by ending the reported harassment and intimidation of mainly Spanish-speaking immigrant tenants in nearly 1,800 apartments within 49 buildings in Harlem, Washington Heights, Brooklyn and the South Bronx.
