Impact Of Technology On The Youth From Harlem To Harare

February 24, 2019

The involution of technology has taken over in many daily activities. While you may be grateful that you don’t have to walk or commute to the bank to pay your bills or to the mall for shopping, you may have to worry about your little ones. And the way technology has affected them.

Firstly, the use of TVs and gadgets all the time has denied children to participate in outdoors activities which contribute a lot to their excellent health. The research has shown that the rate at which kids are suffering from obesity is higher than it was the last two decades. This has been caused by kids not engaging in physical activities as they’re always busy on TVs or their phones after school and during the holidays.

Other than risking to suffer from obesity, children who spend a lot of time on screens may develop eye problem, lack of concentration and lack of enough sleep. Again, the use of technology has also affected the kid’s social life. This in return has caused kids not to be able to express their self, due to lack of exposure. It also affects youths’ self-esteem significantly.

Not all online game will do good for your Children. Some games are addictive and can deny children to concentrate on their school work leading to poor performances. Other games are entirely harmful to your kids and may guide them to the wrong choices. Not to mention a lot of harmful or immoral content available online that may change your kid’s behavior negatively.  The exposure of social media platforms also risks children to cyberbullying that can affect not only their performance in class but also their esteem.

On the other hand, it is clear that the same technology has a positive effect on the younger generation. The teens have learned a lot from the internet, and their school work is also made more comfortable due to the availability of research online. Therefore, denying your children, the chance to be online is not a good idea either. However, you can take control of their time online and make sure you monitor them by installing a flexispy app to their smartphones and yours as well so that you can be able to see which sites they engage in and what kind of messages they speak with their online friends.

Other ways of helping children are to limit them from TVs. Set a specific time for watching and let them choose particular shows that they enjoy most. Again you should pay attention to whatever programs they watch and ensure it’s of good morals and fun.

Setting time for the outdoor family day is also a brilliant idea for keeping your kids away from their gadget. Make it clear to them that no one should be with their phones during that specific time and that includes you as parents. Be a good example by keeping off from online for a while or maybe waiting until the kids are away or asleep if you have to check on your Facebook friends.
