Health System Chief Nursing Officer Dr. Natalia Cineas Wins Nurses Foundation Award

NYC Health + Hospitals today announced that the system’s Chief Nurse Executive Natalia Cineas, DNP, RN, NEA-BC, FAAN received the 2021 DAISY Nurse Leader Award in Policy by the DAISY Foundation and HealthImpact.

Recipients of the 2021 DAISY Nurse Leader Award were chosen based on their work improving the health of populations through compassionate care.

Cineas is recognized for implementing the first system-wide Professional Practice Model (PPM) and Care Delivery Model (CDM).

She is one of four individuals selected by a national panel of healthcare policy experts for this recognition. The DAISY Foundation recognizes the contributions and dedication of nurses to their patients and the profession.

HealthImpact is dedicated to enhancing health by supporting a thriving nurse workforce through advocacy and innovation.

The NYC Caring Model and Patient-Family Care Delivery Model at NYC Health + Hospitals creates a standardized method of nursing care, based on input gathered from nursing professionals across the health care system. The approach ensures patient outcomes are consistent across the board.

Dr. Cineas directs more than 9,600 nurses, and more than 970 social workers, as well as planning, overseeing, and evaluating all aspects of clinical operations, services, and nurse education to ensure the delivery of quality, safe, standardized, and cost-effective nursing care to patients and the community at NYC Health + Hospitals.

Dr. Cineas previously held nursing leadership roles as Deputy Chief Nursing Officer and Senior Director of Nursing at New York City’s Mount Sinai St. Luke’s Hospital; and as Patient Care Director of Neurosurgery and the Neurosurgical Intensive Care Unit at Columbia University Medical Center New York-Presbyterian Hospital.

She holds a Doctorate of Nursing Practice from George Washington University, a Master of Science in Management and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from New York University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Stony Brook University. 

In 2021, Dr. Cineas was named a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing, one of the most significant milestones in a nurse leader’s career, in which their accomplishments are honored by their colleagues within and outside the profession.

In 2020 and 2021, she completed the Samuel H. and Maria Miller Foundation Post-Doctoral Fellowship program at Case Western Reserve University’s Marian K. Shaughnessy Nurse Leadership Academy at the Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing in Cleveland, one of just 11 nurse leaders selected for the inaugural class.

Dr. Cineas is also one of a select group of nurse executives participating in the Coldiron Senior Nurse Executive Fellowship Program at the Academy, in partnership with the American Nurses Association, the American Organization for Nursing Leadership, and the Healthcare Financial Management Association.
