Today, La MaMa is a world renowned cultural institution recognized as the seed bed of new work by artists of all nations & cultures. Our interest has been in the people who make art & it is to them that we give our support with free theatre & rehearsal space, lights, sound, props, platforms & whatever else we have that they can use to create their work. We want them to feel free to explore their ideas & translate them into a theatrical language that can communicate to any person in any part of the world.

Voza Rivers/New Heritage Theatre Group (Co-Producer) now celebrating its 50th  Anniversary, is the oldest Black non-profit theatre company in New York City. NHTG was originally established in 1964, under the name New Heritage Repertory Theatre, by the late Roger Furman, a revered playwright, director, actor & lecturer who began his career in the 1940’s with the American Negro Theatre in Harlem. It was created to present entertaining, informative & quality productions & to preserve & institutionalize classic works of Black theatre. In 1983, Voza Rivers, an award winning music & theatre producer, took over the company. 1997 marked a new phase for the company, embarking on a new journey of growth & development when Jamal Joseph, an award-winning writer, director, documentary filmmaker & educator, joined the organization as Executive Artistic Director. Under the leadership of both Mr. Rivers & Mr. Joseph, the theatre company reorganized & expanded its mission. It took on the current title New Heritage Theatre Group & transformed into a leading New York City non-profit arts organization, serving tens of thousands of community members & youth. Today, New Heritage Theatre Group serves the community through presentations of entertaining, informative & quality productions of performing arts events, stage readings & documentary shorts & films. Through its umbrella organizations, Impact Repertory Theatre, Furman Theatre Rep & New Heritage Films, they outreach to the New York City & world community, giving training, exposure & experience to new & emerging artists. Their works reflect the historical, social & political experiences of African & Latino descendants in America & abroad, seeking to bring attention to works by international writers, directors & performing artists who have achieved success in their respective country, but lack exposure in the United States.
