We Love It, Argentine Tango In NYC With Típica Messiez Performance At Lincoln Center

July 6, 2019

Típica Messiez, a new 10-piece Argentine tango orchestra based in New York City, will perform at Lincoln Center on July 11 as part of Midsummer Night Swing. Its founder and director, an award-winning Argentine pianist, composer, and arranger Emiliano Messiez, is one of the most sought-after tango pianists in the world. Messiez directs the orchestra and several smaller groups, and he tours internationally with Broadway and West End sensation “Forever Tango,” seen by more than 8 million people, and lauded by the global press as a blockbuster stage show.

Típica Messiez offers a signature mix of original and classic tango arrangements, making it ideal for tango dancers and music aficionados alike. If you dance the tango, you’ll be up on your feet all night long; if you enjoy listening to tango, you’ll find that your toe just won’t stop tapping. Energy, rhythm, great arrangements, and a broad range of dynamics will make Típica Messiez your new favorite tango orchestra.

Típica Messiez, proudly sponsored by the Consulate of Argentina in New York City, is the only “orquesta típica” in the U.S., comprised of first-class musicians and tango experts, including Latin Grammy Award winner, bandoneonist Raul Jaurena. “Orquesta típica” is a term for a band that plays popular music and has approximately 8 to 12 musicians. In Argentina & Uruguay, the term typically signifies a tango orchestra comprised of a violin section, a bandoneon section (tango’s signature instrument), and a rhythm section including a piano and a double bass.

Lincoln Center’s Midsummer Night Swing presents sixteen incredible nights of music and social dancing under the stars. Dancers can enjoy the sounds and movements of tango, salsa, big band swing, and more, from June 25 through July 13 in Damrosch Park. The July 11 event features a free adaptive dance lesson for those with limited mobility at 5:30 pm, and then ticketed events starting at 6:00 pm. From 6:30-7:00 pm, tango dancers Leonardo Sardella and Mariana Parma will teach an all-levels tango lesson. Live music by Típica Messiez begins at 7:30 pm, and features two one-hour sets for social dancing and listening. Tickets are on sale now on the Midsummer Swing website.
