Travelers Into New York State Must Get Tested For The COVID Virus

October 31, 2020

Anyone traveling into New York will now be required to undergo coronavirus testing both before and after traveling to the state, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced during a call with reporters on Saturday, October 31, 2020.

The policy replaces a statewide travel advisory that required travelers from states with significant community spread of COVID-19 to self-quarantine for 14 days upon arrival to New York.

The new “testing policy” replaces a statewide travel advisory that required travelers from states with significant community spread of COVID-19 to self-quarantine for 14 days upon arrival to New York.

The new policy will require anyone traveling into New York to test negative for the virus within three days prior to arrival. Once they arrive in New York, travelers must quarantine for three days and, on the fourth day, get tested for the virus again.

If they test positive, travelers will be required to quarantine for an additional 14 days.

New Yorkers who travel outside of the state for less than 24 hours must also get tested for COVID-19 within four days of their return.

The new policy does not apply to New York’s neighboring states or anyone commuting between states for work.

On the call, Cuomo said the change was made after experts suggested a testing policy would be more effective than a travel advisory list, CNY Central reported.
