Touro College Of Osteopathic Medicine In Harlem Add Community Service To Their CV’s

November 4, 2020

Donning masks and gloves, 76 student doctor volunteers and faculty from Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine – Harlem engaged in a socially distanced “Community Service Day” on Monday, November 1st, 2020.

Working in teams, they successfully handed out 122 paper bag lunches to the homeless and cleaned up several blocks within the vicinity of the medical school, located on 125th Street between Frederick Douglass Blvd. and Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Blvd.

The event was a collaborative effort between the Student Government Association (SGA), Sigma Sigma Phi (SSP) Honor Society, and Professor Kamila Ali, Ph.D.

“There is always an overwhelming amount of trash on the streets near our building, and while it is not directly our responsibility, we can still show our support and care for the community,” said SGA VP Pamela Matthew.

“Since the reduction of city services due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a rise in the homeless population. My hope is that together we can have a positive impact – no matter how little – on the community we call home,” continued Matthew.
