1. Educational Justice Symposium

TEN founder/facilitator Joe Rogers, Jr. joins an evening panel discussion focused on reframing the conversation around education and youth involved in the juvenile justice and foster care systems. Organized by Youth, Media and Educational Justice, this event is FREE and open to the public.

2. Literacy Across Harlem Day | #RockThoseReads Community Service Project

Tuesday, April 1, 2014 – 3:30PM-5:00PM

125th Street & Amsterdam Avenue (southeast corner)

For 90 minutes, our intergenerational team of volunteers, including community-minded middle-school students from Street Squash Harlem, will:

*ask passersby about their reading habits;

*hand out Literacy Across Harlem Day flyers;
*tell other community members why we love reading and why it’s so important; and
*encourage others to carry their “reads” outside of their bags!

3. Inaugural Harlem Adult Education Conference

Thursday, April 17, 2014 – 5:00PM-9:00PM 

The City College of New York – Harris Hall (Convent Avenue near 140th Street)

In partnership with conference host The City College of New York – Continuing and Professionals Studies, Harlem YMCA Literacy Zone, and New York Public Library – Upper Manhattan Adult Learning Centers.

The purpose of the Harlem Adult Education Conference is to facilitate the community-based exchange of tools, strategies, and research among adult educators serving Harlemites. Peer-to-peer workshops conducted by Harlem’s outstanding instructors will address timely issues in the field of adult education, including Adult Literacy and Adult Basic Education, the Test Assessing Secondary Completion (TASC) and the Common Core, English as a Second Language, College and Career Readiness, Digital Literacy, and Advocacy.

Registration limited to adult-education instructors, tutors, and administrators/staff.
