Manhattan Borough President Gale A. Brewer today received and distributed 50,000 face masks donated by the Greater New York Automobile Dealers Association (GNYADA). The three-ply face masks were distributed by B.P. Brewer and her team to nursing homes, senior centers, and community organizations, including Isabella Geriatric Center, New Jewish Home, Stanley M. Isaacs Neighborhood Center, Union Settlement, Lenox Hill Neighborhood House, West Side Federation for Senior and Supportive Housing, ArchCare at Terence Cardinal Cooke Health Care Center, Laundry Workers Center, Visiting Neighbors, Lifeforce in Later Years, Project FIND, Riverton Houses, Lakeview Houses, and Gateway Plaza, as well as smaller organizations doing on the ground efforts like La Fonda in East Harlem, Vision Urbana and Father’s Heart Ministries.
“These masks will help protect staff and patients at facilities throughout Manhattan, making a difference in saving lives and slowing the spread of the pandemic,” said Borough President Brewer. “I am grateful to GNYADA’s president, Mark Schienberg and his members for their generous donation to New Yorkers in need. On behalf of all Manhattanites, I’m thankful.”
“When New Yorkers are in need, time and again, franchised new car dealers and their employees are always there for the communities where they live and work. Auto dealers are the brick-and-mortar backbones of Main Streets and neighborhoods throughout the region, supporting little leagues, hospitals, schools, senior centers, and many charities large and small,” said GNYADA President Mark Schienberg. “During this extremely challenging time, when so many New Yorkers are suffering, losing loved ones, losing jobs, and struggling, car dealerships are once again here to contribute.”
Under Governor Andrew Cuomo’s Executive Order No. 202.17, all New Yorkers must wear a face covering when they need to be outside their home and are unable to maintain at least 6 feet of distance between themselves and others. The City of New York’s guidance says that if you live in a facility that has shared kitchens, bathrooms, or other common spaces, you should wear a face-covering when you leave your apartment or room. People who are sick should wear a face covering while at home if they cannot maintain at least 6 feet of distance from others. People who are sick and who need to leave their home, such as to get essential medical care, should always wear a face covering.
