Some people ride bikes competitively, while others prefer to ride bikes for pleasure. If you are in the latter group, you probably own a women’s cruiser bike or similar bicycle that’s built for comfort rather than speed.
But why limit yourself to just riding around your own town? Getting out on a bicycle while on vacation is a very enjoyable experience – especially if you have the pleasure of riding along the beach. Here are some of the best coastal beach towns for biking.
Huntington Beach, CA
There are few places in the world more picturesque than Huntington Beach, CA. If you want to enjoy it from the back of a bicycle, get ready for a beautiful ride. The city has a lot of bike trails, but the most popular one is called Huntington Beach Bicycle Trail. As the name suggests, it’s the ideal trail to enjoy on a comfy city bicycle. Make sure you prepare in advance, though, since the trail is 20 miles roundtrip. That means you’ll need to pack plenty of water and a few snacks. Don’t forget to throw a swimsuit on underneath your cycling clothes if you plan to hop off and enjoy the water for a while.
Corpus Christi, TX
Do you have plans to travel to The Lone Star State? If so, make sure you set aside time to ride the Shoreline Boulevard/Ocean Drive. This spectacular 11-mile road has a bike lane for most of its length. This makes it easy for cyclists to travel safely next to vehicles while enjoying the impressive beach scenery.
Miami has some of the most highly anticipate bicycle events in the nation. Each month, the city hosts Critical Mass bicycle rides that attract thousands of riders. You can take advantage of one of the many well-kept bicycle trails in the city the next time your travels take you there.
Hilton Head, SC
Hilton Head, South Carolina has some beautiful beaches, and many of them are hard-packed. That means this is one of the rare areas where you can actually ride your bicycle directly on the beach, rather than sticking to trails. If you’re worried about keeping your hybrid bikes for women safe from salt, time your ride so it’s during low tide. That way you won’t have to bike through salt water.
Outer Banks, NC
If historic lighthouses and picturesque farmlands and pristine beaches are all your favorite things, you’ll love Outer Banks, NC. Here you’ll find plenty of bike trails that stretch over 105 miles of beautiful landscape. The terrain here is mostly flat as well, which means you can enjoy a relaxing, scenic ride without the strain of mountainous terrain or rolling hills. People love to ride in Outer Banks because they can see everything from wildlife preserves to salt marshes. There is plenty of diversity to keep you interested and entertained no matter how long your bike ride may be.
These are just a few of the most beautiful beach towns that welcome cyclists. If your travels take you through or near any of these areas, make sure you take a women’s cruiser bike along with you.
