The Maybe songstress and NBA player shared the joyful news on Instagram, where they also revealed the name and sex of the child. Alongside a photo of an MRI scan, the 25-year-old Cleveland Cavaliers player Shumpert confirmed that Taylor, 24, is pregnant with a lengthy message, which also announced the due date as 16 January 2016.
He wrote: “When a man loves a woman how she was born to be loved…procreation is the best blessing you can receive! I couldn’t be more happy than to share my first child with the woman I intended to have my family with.” Revealing the name, Shumpert added: “Iman Tayla Shumpert Jr is expected to enter this world ‘1.16.16’. We want that world to be as pure as possible for her. We people, show the world what we feel the world should see when we want them to see it…something this beautiful had to be announced when we were ready for everyone to know…”
He continued: “This is what happiness grows into! I love you@teyanataylor thank you for your sacrifice in starting our very own family! P.s. I know you see my daughter with her hand behind her head and her feet kicked up…she’s already daddy’s little girl!!!” The singer and actress replied to Shumpert’s message: “& that’s all that matters… I love you baby.”
In November 2014, Taylor and Shumpert, who began dating in June of that year, opened up about how they make their relationship work in the glare of the spotlight. Taylor told Enstars TV, “There’s not a hardest part at all, it’s when you build a foundation that nobody can come between. Being in the spotlight people can try to bring you down over social media but the only people that can break this apart is the people who built it and that’s us.”
However, Shumpert replied, “The fact that you have to go to work and on tour for 10 to 20 days. That’s hard. [But] we make it work.” Perhaps the sacrifice the basketball player mentioned in his baby announcement was in relation to Taylor’s career, which has taken off over the last year following the release of her long-awaited debut album VII.
The singer, who is signed to Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music record label, has been close friends with R&B star Chris Brown for several years, and recently performed as a support act on his One Hell Of A Nite tour across North America. The pair also collaborated on the ballad Do Not Disturb, which featured on Taylor’s album (source).
