Dear Friend,
Each spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the nation and in each congressional district. Since the Artistic Discovery competition began in 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have participated, and I am excited to announce the start of this year’s contest.
High school students from my district are encouraged to submit entries to my office, and a panel of district artists will select the winning entries. Once selected, winners will be recognized both in my district and during an annual awards ceremony in Washington, DC. The winning works are displayed for one year at the U.S. Capitol during this exciting opportunity to highlight the creativity and artistic expression that New York’s 13th congressional district has to offer.
The original artwork may include submissions of paintings, drawings, collages and photography. Please click here to review the complete list of rules and regulations for the 2020 competition for students and teachers.
Entries for this year’s competition must be submitted to my office via email to ART.NY13@mail.house.gov. We ask that each entrant submit only ONE original artwork per submission.
The deadline for submission to my office is Friday, April 24, 2020.

Concurso de Arte del Distrito Congresual 2020
Apreciado amigo,
Cada primavera, el Instituto del Congreso patrocina una competencia nacional de arte visual de escuelas secundarias para reconocer y fomentar el talento artístico en la nación y en cada distrito congresual. Desde que comenzó la competencia Artistic Discovery en 1982, más de 650,000 estudiantes de secundaria han participado, y estoy emocionado de anunciar el inicio del concurso de este año.
Animo a los estudiantes de secundaria de mi distrito a someter sus propuestas a mi oficina, y un panel de artistas del distrito seleccionará las propuestas ganadoras. Una vez seleccionados, los ganadores serán reconocidos tanto en mi distrito como durante una ceremonia anual de premiación en Washington, DC. Las obras ganadoras se exhiben durante un año en el Capitolio de los EE.UU., lo que representa una emocionante oportunidad para resaltar la creatividad y la expresión artística que el distrito congresual 13 de Nueva York tiene para ofrecer.
