Spread More Beauty Throughout Harlem At The New Natural Hair Course NYC

February 16, 2019

Natural hair course New York City was created for the natural hair enthusiasts from Harlem to Hollywood, and beyond.

With the resurgence of people embracing their natural hair, the shift towards loving your natural hair has become an industry mainstay. There is no other license school in New York City at this time. The demand has finally been met.

We asked the director/owner and Harlemite Ruth Brooks about the 5 W’s regarding her new business:

Who

Good afternoon I’m Ruth Brooks the Owner/Director of the brand new 300-hour New York State, Department of state-licensed natural hair course. I’m a Harlem native born and raised. I obtained my cosmetology license in 1997 I apprenticed at Vidal Sasson and have worked for some of New York City’s most prestigious salons. Beth Minardi trained, I am Harlem’s colorist. I have worked for John Barret and the Style Barr in Sag Harbor. An educator for a major Organic color line.

What

As a result of personal experience and research, myself and other salon owner’s noticed very few licensed stylists in Harlem despite a new law requiring natural hair stylist to have a New York State Natural hair license in order to do natural hair or a New York State Cosmetology license to perform chemical services and natural hair in New York State. So, I and several very seasoned veterans’ in the industry have come together to fill the void in the industry we love so much. Collectively we have 100 years of experience under one roof. March 1st, 2019 Natural hair course NYC will open to the public.

Where

Natural hair course NYC is located at 2198 Frederick Douglas Blvd., New York NY, 10026, 212.987.8292, naturalhaircoursenyc@gmail.com, https://naturalhaircourse.nyc/

When

They will open on March 1st, 2019.

Why

This is historical because the first lady of cosmology Madam C. J. Walker was a trailblazer for us all. She led the way which ushered in the owner of the legendary Apex Beauty School Sara Spencer Washington in the ’50s and ’60s then serving the Tri-State are right in the heart of Harlem. We will train enrollees to pass the New York State written and practical to obtain their license in natural hair. Which will enable hair stylist working illegally to finally work legally and train newcomers to the field to obtain entry-level positions in beauty salons upon completion of the course.
