Kwame Brathwaite passed on Saturday, April 1st, 2023, he was a photographer and activist who was born in 1938 and is known for his photographs documenting the cultural and political movements of the African diaspora.
He is particularly recognized for his role in the “Black is Beautiful” movement in the 1960s and 1970s, which sought to challenge Eurocentric beauty standards and promote the aesthetic and cultural value of blackness from Harlem to Harare.
As Sietu Oronde stated, “Kwame was a great hero the documented black history.”
We’re sure he hears the drums of Harlem playing in celebration of his life.
