On the road for a meet-and-greet with international soccer star team captain Carlos “El Pibe” Valderrama for the kick-off World Cup celebrations on Saturday, May 10 at the Queens Center Mall in Queens, New York.
“El Pibe” is internationally known because of his unique ball-handling skills and his bright blond hair. He has appeared in multiple World Cups ad won the Colombian National Championship in 1993 and 1995.
He played in the United States for the Tampa Bay Unity during Major League Soccer’s first season in 1996, winning the league’s first MVP award.
The event, which is sponsored by Verizon, is part of a weekend of activities in the mall and will also feature an interactive soccer game, trivia and games with prizes.
Verizon’s tour will visit four other states, including Maryland, Texas, California and Florida, as it gears up for the World Cup, which runs from June 12 to July 13 in Brazil.
