The Harlem Globetrotters have named Phil McCarn its Vice President, Global Partnership Marketing. In this role, McCarn will focus on building strategic alliances, partnerships and sponsorships for the team which is entering its 92nd season.
“We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Phil to the team,” said Howard Smith, president of the Harlem Globetrotters. “Given his more than 20 years of experience and relationships, we anticipate his efforts will bring invaluable experience to the Harlem Globetrotters and expand our partnership initiatives to new levels.”
McCarn comes to the Globetrotters from IMG College, a division of Endeavor (formerly WME) where he was a sales leader on the Georgia Tech IMG Sports Marketing team that achieved record revenues during his tenure. Previously, McCarn gave sales leadership to all properties within the IMG College Events, Entertainment and Development division. He has also served as Senior Vice President, Business Development for Encompass International, a firm specializing in sponsorship sales and consulting for Olympic parties, various sport properties and Fortune 500 brand. McCarn led the Property Consulting division for CSE, providing consultation and business development efforts to various sport properties, including NASCAR, teams in the NBA and NFL, various venues and numerous collegiate athletic conferences.
Early in his career, McCarn played a prominent role as Director of Sales & Marketing in the reinvention and return to profitability of the PGA TOUR’s Wyndham Championship. A graduate of Appalachian State University, he began his career at the Greensboro (N.C.) Sports Commission.
