Of all Patagonia’s products, its Synchilla fleece pullover might best deserve the iconic status that it holds. After all, Patagonia worked closely with Malden Mills (now Polartec) to help create fleece as we know the material today. And now, it’s genuinely ubiquitous; it’s a must-have for any outdoor adventure because it stays warm when it’s wet, but it’s also become an everyday style staple. Patagonia hasn’t altered its original fleece pullover much over the decades — beyond making it from recycled materials — but this year it’s riffing on the icon with the introduction of something called Fleecelab.
With Fleecelab, Patagonia is getting creative with its plushest material. You won’t find some new version of the snap pullover here, but you will see a retro-inspired shell hoodie, a shawl collar jacket and a chore coat (our favorite of the lot). They’re a step away from technical performance in the outdoors, but they embrace the more casual style tendencies for which fleece has been adopted reports source. All include a high percentage of recycled materials, and all serve as contemporary iterations of the gear supplier’s enduring hallmark material.
