NYCEM Opens Mobile Office In Harlem

Adam-clayton-powell-officeNew York City Emergency Management officials will visit Harlem on Tuesday, August 25, to discuss emergency preparedness, coordination, and planning with residents.

NYC Emergency Management staff members will open a mobile office at Adam Clayton Powell Jr. State Office Building at 125th Street and Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard from 11 AM to 3 PM, and will give residents the opportunity to learn more about the agency’s role in educating and preparing New Yorkers for emergencies. With the 2015 hurricane season well underway, emergency managers will provide tips to help the community prepare for hurricane season.

“NYC Emergency Management works tirelessly every day to keep New Yorkers safe and informed,” said NYC Emergency Management Commissioner Joseph Esposito. “Our mobile office hours are a new way for New Yorkers to meet and get to know the emergency managers coordinating emergency responses in New York City.”

“Emergencies happen, and we never know when in advance.  That’s why all New Yorkers should be prepared – and why it’s great that we do know that NYC Emergency Management’s mobile office is visiting Harlem on August 25th,” said Manhattan Borough President Gale A. Brewer.

“I commend the leadership at OEM for bringing their core message – as well as helpful support and vital resources – directly to the people of Harlem in the form of mobile office hours,” said New York State Senator Bill Perkins. “This is an innovative and democratic approach that will be very helpful in terms of empowering, informing and proactively arming residents in our interconnected communities to prepare for emergencies.”

“Living in a fast-paced, globally influential place such as New York City, it is great to know that New Yorkers can depend on the Office of Emergency Management (OEM) in our time of need,” said Council Member Inez E. Dickens, District 9-Harlem. “From staying up-to-date with the latest information to emergency preparedness, especially now with hurricane season upon us, OEM and their mobile office is equipping Harlem with everything we need to know to stay safe and informed.”

NYC Emergency Management staff members will be on hand to distribute a range of emergency preparedness materials. New Yorkers are encouraged to stop by to learn how to be prepared for any emergency, including steps to make a plan, gather supplies, and stay informed. Residents will also learn how they can join New York City Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT), a program consisting of more than 2,000 volunteers dedicated to helping their communities during emergencies.

NYC Emergency Management’s mobile office visited Monsignor Del Valle Square in Hunts Point, The Bronx, on August 4, the Red Hook Library in Brooklyn on August 6, Rockaway Beach, Queens, on August 12, Joyce Kilmer Park in The Bronx on August 14, and Staten Island Borough Hall on August 18. The upcoming mobile office will be held from 11AM to 3 PM at the following location:

  • August 25: Manhattan, Harlem (Adam Clayton Powell Jr. State Office Building, 125th Street and Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard)

All Mobile Office locations are accessible.
