Rare, rare photograph from the recently purchased Jet magazine archives with Nipsey Russell Harlem’s ‘Son Of Fun‘ at the Baby Grand nightclub in Harlem, 1954.
The photograph includes “the poet laureate of television,” the Tin Man in The Wiz, comedian and Harlem regular Russell as he cavorts with dancers Rose LaRosa and Delilah Wyld.
The bottom of the photograph reads:
Too Torrid To Take: clutching fire extinguisher to protect himself from torrid bump and grind routine, comic Nipsey Russell gets backstage preview of hot act rehearsed by strippers Rose LaRosa and Delilah Wyld at Harlem’s Baby Grand night club.
