National Dance Institute To Honor Harlem’s Marcus Samuelsson

Marcus SamuelssonNational Dance Institute, the non-profit organization that has transformed the lives of millions of public school children through the arts, will hold its Annual Gala on Monday, April 28, 2014 at the Best Buy Theater in New York City.  The event will honor renowned Harlemite, chef and restaurateur Marcus Samuelsson, and philanthropists Barbara & Donald Tober.  The evening’s Honorary Chairs are: Chris Noth, Debra Messing and Whoopi Goldberg.  Terrence Mann and Charlotte d’Amboise of the Tony Award-winning musical “Pippin” will emcee the event.  The evening will also feature a special performance by the children of National Dance Institute.

The Annual Gala is National Dance Institute’s largest fundraising event with all proceeds benefitting NDI’s award-winning arts education programs for New York City public school children in under-resourced neighborhoods.  NDI’s exuberant, participatory and intellectually engaging dance and music programs enrich the lives of 6,000 children in 39 New York City schools each week, filling a critical gap in public school education.

National Dance Institute was founded by the legendary New York City Ballet principal dancer Jacques d’Amboise in the belief that the arts, and dance and music in particular, have a unique power to engage all children and motivate them toward excellence.

The Gala will begin at 6PM with a cocktail reception.  Dinner, the award presentation, a special performance and live auction will begin at 7PM.  The live auction, conducted by CK Swett, will feature coveted items including tickets to the Vanity Fair Oscar Party, a Best of New York entertainment package with unparalleled VIP access to New York’s most iconic events, and a six-person dinner at the legendary Rao’s.

The evening’s Honorary Vice Chairs are: Susan & Donald Newhouse and Madaleine Berley & Arnold S. Penner.  The 2014 Gala Committee includes Trudy Chan; Deborah Colson & Mark Diker; Lauren B. Cramer; Valerie & Charles Diker; Patricia Dugan-Perlmuth & William Perlmuth, Edith & Jonathan Fassberg; Carol & Tony Friscia; Lisa A. Huestis & David E. Van Zandt; Kathy & Joe Mele; Kerry & Ron Moelis; Helen Stambler Neuberger & Jim Neuberger; Anya Herz Shiva & Dr. Andrew Shiva; and Yadey Yawand-Wossen & Adam Richman.

Gala tables range from $10,000 to $50,000.

Individual tickets begin at $1,000.
