The Cathedral of St. John the Divine welcomes Donna Dinkins, David Dinkins, Jr., and their families for a memorial service.
The service honors their parents Joyce Burrows Dinkins and David Norman Dinkins, in-person and online on Saturday, October 23, 2021, at 2:15 pm at 1047 Amsterdam Ave. at 112th Street in Harlem, NY.
While seating is limited, the family will Livestream the service online for all to pay tribute to these New York icons.
David Dinkins, New York City’s first African American mayor, and his wife Joyce Burrows Dinkins will be commemorated with personal remembrances, eulogies, and benedictions in the space of this great cathedral.
Musical tributes will include classic compositions by Duke Ellington and vocal performances by Valerie Simpson of the award-winning songwriting duo Ashford & Simpson.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and Cathedral conservation work, in-person attendance is limited to family. The service will be live-streamed on the Cathedral’s website, YouTube channel, and Facebook page.
