A 22-year-old man was shot when gunfire erupted in a Harlem housing projects, police and witnesses said.
The victim was struck in the leg in the courtyard of the St. Nicholas Houses on W. 127th St. near Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Blvd. at about 1 p.m., authorities said.
One witness, who asked to only be identified by the initials D.B., said she was in the courtyard when the violence broke out.
“I was sitting right here and I went over there behind that wall to hide,” she said.
“I just saw him lying there. Fear was going through my head,” she said.
Emergency responders rushed the man to Harlem Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.
Police recovered at least four shell casings and a white plastic kitchen knife at the scene.
There were no immediate arrests and the investigation was ongoing.
