The trailblazing actress who was born in Harlem Cicely Tyson has died at 96, died on Thursday afternoon, January 28th, 2021.
Tyson’s death was announced Thursday evening by her family and manager Larry Thompson:
“With heavy heart, the family of Miss Cicely Tyson announces her peaceful transition this afternoon. At this time, please allow the family their privacy,” according to a statement issued through Thompson.
Also, he stated on The Jasmine Brand that:
“I have managed Miss Tyson’s career for over 40 years, and each year was a privilege and blessing. Cicely thought of her new memoir as a Christmas tree decorated with all the ornaments of her personal and professional life. Today she placed the last ornament, a Star, on top of the tree.”
No cause of death or further details have been released at this time reports Tv One.
This heartbreaking news comes just two days after the icon released a memoir entitled “Just as I Am.”
No additional details about her passing have been released.
