Less than a year after Pathmark – East Harlem’s largest supermarket closed its doors for the last time – the National Supermarket Association, East Harlem community leaders, Community Board Members and elected officials, including Harlem, New York City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito and New York State Senator Adriano Espaillat.
The rally on 125 East 116th Street to denounce the imminent shuttering of City Fresh Market at the end of the month and to demand both Walgreens and the building owner work with the community to preserve local access to healthy, affordable groceries.
