Historic Bethel Holy Church Celebrates It’s 70th Year And Continues To Grow

March 26, 2019

This month, historic Bethel Holy Church celebrates a remarkable milestone: 70 years of impactful fellowship, community service and civic engagement in the Harlem-Washington Heights community. In an era when many New York congregations are facing economic downturn and difficulty retaining parishioners, Bethel Holy Church, located on the border of Harlem and Washington Heights, continues to grow steadily, with recent investments in infrastructure and its community service programs.

The ongoing growth and modernization of the church is largely credited to its Pastor, Joseph Bell Jr. Installed as the church’s Senior Pastor in 2016 after the passing of his father—the late, great community fixture, Pastor Joseph H. Bell, Sr.—Pastor Joseph Bell Jr. discerned a new vision for Bethel Holy Church, one that continues the traditions of evangelism, spiritual growth and community service pioneered by his father, but that also tends to the unique needs of the residents of Harlem and Washington Heights today.

“We are known as a ‘loving, caring, sharing’ ministry for a good reason,” said Pastor Joseph Bell Jr. “As the challenges, we face as Harlem and Washington Heights residents in the 21st century continue to change, so too will our church adapt to serve the needs of our people. With recent investments in technology and infrastructure, and money pouring into our soup kitchen, we are determined to continue to be the spiritual and community epicenter of the Harlem-Washington Heights Community.”

On this 70th anniversary, Bethel Holy Church looks forward to serving as a guiding light and place of worship for residents for years to come. On behalf of our Pastor Joseph Bell Jr., they welcome the opportunity for you to join us in worship and praise.
