Hip Hip Hooray! Harlem’s Espaillat Named To Exclusive House Appropriations Committee

Today, Representative Adriano Espaillat released the following statement.

It was released upon Espaillat’s appointment to serve on the influential House Appropriations Committee in the 117th Congress.

“Representing my constituency and having a voice on decisions determining government funding is so critical to fighting for New York families on the issues impacting them the most,” said Rep. In his four years in Congress, Espaillat has secured multiple wins in congressional appropriations legislation, including funding for body cameras for border patrol agents, a higher budget for the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative, investment in critical infrastructure projects like the Second Avenue Subway, and investment in key federal nutrition programs.

He will be one of just two New Yorkers to serve on the Appropriations Committee, as well as the only member of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus’s leadership and one of just two naturalized citizens on the panel.

First elected to Congress in 2016, Rep. Adriano Espaillat is serving his second term in Congress where he serves as a member of the influential U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee, the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, and the House Small Business Committee.

He serves as a Senior Whip of the House Democratic Caucus and is a member of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) where he also serves in a leadership role as CHC Whip.

He is also chairman of the CHC Task Force for Transportation, Infrastructure and Housing. Rep. Espaillat’s Congressional District includes Harlem, East Harlem, northern Manhattan and the north-west Bronx.
