Harlem’s Fashion Row Teams Up With Nordstrom For An HBCU Scholarship

Nordstrom has exciting news for the Harlem fashion scene!

The renowned retailer has just announced a collaborative scholarship initiative with Harlem Fashion Row (HFR) aimed at supporting Black designers and fashion programs at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). This partnership, an extension of ICON360’s mission, seeks to uplift and advance marginalized talent through educational opportunities.

In the vibrant world of HFR, where fashion meets advocacy, students at HBCUs now have the chance to benefit from a newly introduced scholarship. Brandice Daniel, the visionary founder and CEO of Harlem’s Fashion Row and ICON360, shared her firsthand understanding of the industry’s challenges. She expressed her excitement about partnering with Nordstrom to create pathways for the next generation of Black designers and HBCU fashion students.

Since its inception in 2007, HFR has been a trailblazer, addressing the need for recognition of designers of color who were often overlooked. Today, it stands as a leading agency fostering connections between brands and designers of color in the fashion world. The collaboration with Nordstrom to provide scholarships is just one of HFR’s many impactful initiatives.

Colleen Mitchell, Senior Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging at Nordstrom, highlighted the company’s ambitious commitments to marketplace diversity and equity.

Mitchell emphasized the importance of investing in improved pathways for fashion, design, and retail talent to meet these goals.
