Harlem Congressional Member Espaillat Receives Pfizer/BioNTech COVID19 Vaccine

December 19, 2020

Today, Representative Adriano Espaillat released the following statement:

The statement was made after receiving the Pfizer/BioNTech COVID19 vaccine today at the United States Capitol.

“Our nation’s leading scientists and researchers have developed a vaccine that has been tested and produced based on science to meet our highest standards of safety and effectiveness,” said Rep. Espaillat.

“Today, I was administered the Pfizer/BioNTech COVID19 vaccine to ensure my constituents of its safety and effectiveness. I understand that many individuals, especially within minority communities, have expressed their concerns about being among the first to take the vaccine, and I fully believe that this is the first of many significant steps that I along with each of us must take in order to help stop the spread of this virus that is devastating our communities.

“My district has been hit hardest by this deadly pandemic, with many loved ones taken from us far too soon. As the virus continues to overwhelm our hospitals and emergency personnel, we each have a responsibility and role to play and must answer the call to action to help keep our families safe, our communities strong and to help us rebuild and recover from the impact this pandemic has had on each of us and our economy.

“I have answered that call and encourage my constituents to do the same as the vaccine becomes widely available and accessible throughout the district. I implore everyone to continue wearing a face mask, wash your hands regularly with soap and water, and socially distance for your health and for the safety of those around you. We will get through this together and united and we will build back stronger and better than ever before.”

First elected to Congress in 2016, Rep. Adriano Espaillat is serving his second term in Congress where he serves as a member of the influential U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee, the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, and the House Small Business Committee.

He serves as a Senior Whip of the House Democratic Caucus and is a member of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) where he also serves in a leadership role as CHC Whip.

He is also chairman of the CHC Task Force for Transportation, Infrastructure and Housing.

Rep. Espaillat’s Congressional District includes Harlem, East Harlem, northern Manhattan, and the north-west Bronx. To find out more about Rep. Espaillat, visit online at https://espaillat.house.gov/.
