The Back to School Giveaways provide families the essentials they need to get ready for school and were made possible by a special grant from the Migdol Family Foundation.

Joining FSPH at the enthusiastic and well-attended events were Congressman Adriano Espaillat, State Senator Brian Benjamin, Councilman Bill Perkins, Exonerated 5 member Korey Wise, District Leader Keith Lilly, and former Chief Deputy Attorney General Alvin Bragg. The events were hosted at Schomburg Plaza, Lehman Village Houses, Harlem River Houses, and Esplanade Gardens.

“While there is so much uncertainty and confusion about what to expect with school opening, we hope this relieves some of the pressure for struggling families and lets children know that someone cares about them,” said FPSH founder Jerry Migdol. “These school supplies have a real impact in a child’s success in the classroom and in life and help level the playing field by giving this generation of Harlem students an equal opportunity to learn, compete and achieve.”

Councilman Perkins said, “Education is the key to opportunity. There is a great need for school supplies and so much more. I thank Friends of Public School Harlem and the Migdol family for providing this help and making a difference for Harlem children.”

Korey Wise added, “Being here and providing school supplies helps students start the school year better prepared to succeed and sends a message that somebody cares. These are tough times, so it was great to see the smiles from parents and children. I thank the Friends of Public Schools Harlem and the Migdol Family for making it happen.”

Friends of Public School Harlem Inc. (FPSH) is a non-profit that provides much-needed resources to Harlem’s public schools and its students so that Harlem’s students can learn, compete and achieve. It seeks to level the playing field so Harlem’s students and schools can reach their full potential and feel the success they are capable of and want so much to achieve by donating resources to the students and the public schools of Harlem.

To date, FPSH has donated over $600,000 in conjunction with the Migdol Family Foundation and given over 15,000 school supply kits for kids, 500 computers and iPads, and this year we will be giving away another 4,000 school supply kits along with backpacks for Harlem’s public schools.
