Flip The Seats! Vote Run Lead Encourages Women To Run For EVERY Open Seat In State Legislature

March 6, 2024

It’s time for women to flip the seats in state legislature and finally achieve equal representation in our statehouse governments.

Vote Run Lead, the nonprofit that helps train women to run for office and win, has a plan to do this in just 10 years — versus the 100 years currently projected — by having women run for every open or contested seat.

Vote Run Lead has created a visualization of how this will happen — state-by-state — at womensmajority.org. Want to see what’s possible in YOUR state? Go directly to any individual state’s analysis by putting the two-letter state abbreviation at the end of the website address (URL). Examples:  womensmajority.org/state/ny for New York or womensmajority.org/state/ca for California, etc.

While Super Tuesday may be over, primary elections are still happening through September and a significant number of seats are up for election across the country and the time is now for women to run for office. For example, in California, all 80 Assembly seats and a portion of the Senate seats are up for election, with the Democratic Party holding a majority in both chambers as of March 2024. Similarly, in other states like Colorado, Connecticut, and many more, both Senate and House (or Assembly) seats are being contested, with the party composition of these bodies varying from state to state. Vote Run Lead has a plan to help get more women elected and flip the script when it comes to issues of representative democracy, gender equity, reproductive healthcare and gender justice.  Women are after all 51% of the population and should be equally represented.
