In honor of trailblazer Larry Levan, August First Fridays at the Schomburg will jam all night long to house music! Levan was a pioneer of house music in New York City, best known for his decade-long residency at the popular New York City night club, Paradise Garage.
With sets referred to by his cult following as “Saturday Mass,” Levan experimented with drum machines and synthesizers, ushering in an electronic, post-disco sound that jumpstarted the house music movement.
