Being four-plus hours from Harlem, there is no better way to spend late summer and fall outdoors than in scenic and historic Provincetown, Mass.
“Provincetown is fun for everyone,” says local writer Ann Wood, Director of Outer Cape Tours & Concierge Services, www.OuterCapeTours.com, who developed seven eco-tours with local expert guides that have top reviews on TripAdvisor.
“Outdoors is the place to be,” Ann says. “And Provincetown is a walkable town with stunning landscapes, surrounded by ocean.”
Visiting Provincetown means being outside enjoying the salty fresh air on eco-tours, plus endless opportunities for fishing, bicycling, kayaking, Painting Provincetown, whale watching and more. There are more than 10 outdoor bars, some 30 restaurants with outdoor seating, plus outdoor shows.
The 60-minute Outer Cape walking tours and concierge services are free for guests of three local hotels owned by Lexvest Hospitality Group: Breakwater Hotel, Cape Colony Inn, and Truro Beach Cottages.
Reservations are available to the public who can purchase tickets online. (Visit hotel websites below for details.) Tours run through October 31, 2021.
Tour topics include a first-of-its-kind (adults only) ‘Wild West of the East’ tour, which chronicles the ‘bad behavior’ of well-known artists – Eugene O’Neill, Judy Garland, Anthony Bourdain, Divine and more. The more traditional tours include exploring the dunes, woodlands, flora and fauna, and centuries-old tales of pirates and witches.
Provincetown has taken the lead in controlling the COVID-19 virus, having issued indoor masking guidance on July 19, 2021, and a mandate on July 25, 2021, Town Manager Alex Morse says, “The outbreak is nearly contained. Tourism is back. We have more people in town than we have had since the pandemic began, and the symptoms are incredibly mild according to local medical professionals. We are the most vaccinated community in the state.”
A traditional local fun event – also outdoors — is the 43rd Annual Provincetown Carnival ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow,’ August 15 -21, 2021. Visit Carnival – Provincetown Business Guild (ptown.org)
