“This is an unprecedented time filled with challenges facing higher education here in New York for the students, faculty, and hard-working staff whose communities have built SUNY into the thriving system of nationally recognized public education,” said Rep. Adriano Espaillat (NY-13). “There is no doubt that Dr. Malatras – the first SUNY graduate to become SUNY Chancellor – possesses an intimate knowledge of SUNY, a demonstrated commitment to higher education as President of SUNY Empire State College, and leadership experience as former Vice Chancellor for Policy and Chief of Staff to SUNY Chancellor Emeritus Nancy L. Zimpher to succeed in his new position. It is a tremendous undertaking, but one that I am confident Dr. Malatras is ready to face and succeed.

“As Dr. Malatras begins his new role as SUNY Chancellor on August 31, 2020, I also want to thank the departing Dr. Kristina M. Johnson for her service as the 13th Chancellor of SUNY and wish her success in her new endeavor.”
