Mickels Hill EmblemHealth Neighborhood CareThe newest art piece to commemorate Harlem’s vibrant and cultural community can be found inside EmblemHealth Neighborhood Care, located at 215 West 125th Street.

“Room To Grow Together,” commissioned by EmblemHealth Neighborhood Care, was created by Harlem artist Shar Mickels and is currently on display.

The piece is a colorful depiction of Harlem’s culture, featuring 125th Street and EmblemHealth’s logo sprouting amongst a bed of flowers in between the iconic Apollo Theater and The Adam Clayton Powell State Office Building.

“With EmblemHealth Neighborhood Care joining the 125th Street family, my inspiration was to show the organization’s growth within our community, sprouting between our mega landmarks, the Apollo Theater and the State Building,” said Mickels.

Mickels, a 26-year old self-taught artist and Harlem native, specializes in concept and story-driven art that aims to entertain and encourage. She visited EmblemHealth Neighborhood Care while working at a local art gallery that provides artwork to the location. The staff wanted to create a large wall mural that incorporated themes about the community and she was recommended to design it. The mural took two and a half weeks to design and paint.

“I’m proud to be part of this project to showcase the pride of our neighborhood. It was a wonderful experience working with EmblemHealth,” continued Mickels.

Guests are invited to visit EmblemHealth Neighborhood Care to view the mural and other Harlem-inspired pieces, free-of-charge.

“EmblemHealth is a part of Harlem’s fabric and we wanted to demonstrate, through art, our roots and continued growth here. We were delighted to work with such a talented artist on this project and we proudly display the mural for the entire community to enjoy,” said Christa Hill, Community Liaison at EmblemHealth Neighborhood Care.

EmblemHealth Neighborhood Care is an inviting place where the community is welcomed to meet face-to-face with EmblemHealth professionals to ask questions, get reliable information and solve problems.
