August 11, 2016

alpha blondSince his first success in the ’80s with the panafrican hit “Opération Coup De Poing (Brigadier Sabari),” Alpha Blondy has continued to provide unparalleled reggae music to his fans across the globe. His latest release, 2015’s Positive Energy, was no exception. Featuring a number of brilliant guests including Jamaican artists Ijahman Levi and Tarrus Riley, the zouk master Jacob Desvarieux, and a promising young congolese singer Pierrette Adams, the album focuses on both the spiritual and the political. On “Freedom,” (the oldest composition on the album, written in 1978 when Alpha was in exile in the United States), he sings, “Freedom doesn’t have a price tag, and I won’t be bought because it’s not for sale. Freedom is a must.”

Doors and Show: 7pm
SummerStage, Marcus Garvey Park at W. 122nd St. and Mt. Morris Park West, Harlem, New York,
