Activating A Global Research Agenda for Nutrition Science

harlem-grown-greenhouse-installLeaders from across nutrition-related sectors will convene in Wageningen, Netherlands to identify and activate critical research projects to improve nutrition among key groups, such as adolescent girls—an often neglected population.

WHAT: A public event bringing together select, high-level representatives from governments, industry, NGOs, and academia to discuss the major themes of the multi-day “Forum on International Maternal and Child Nutrition: Initiating Research through Multi-Stakeholder Collaborations,” hosted by The Sackler Institute for Nutrition Science at the New York Academy of Sciences and the Division of Human Nutrition at Wageningen UR (University & Research Centre).

WHEN: Monday, June 16, 2014 from 1:00 PM to 5:30 PM

WHERE: Hotel de Wageningsche Berg, Wageningen, Netherlands

WHO: Presenters include:

  • Zulfiqar Bhutta, PhD, Head, Division of Women and Child Health, The Aga Khan University, on setting research priorities in maternal and child nutrition;
  • Francesco Branca, MD, PhD, Director, Department of Nutrition for Health and Development, World Health Organization, on shaping nutrition recommendations and policies through scientific evidence;
  • Paulus Verschuren, Special Envoy Food and Nutrition Security for Development, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of The Netherlands, on building public-private partnerships in nutrition;
  • Feike Sijbesma, CEO of DSM, Chair of the SUN Business Platform (via video), and Manfred Eggersdorfer, Senior Vice President Nutrition Science & Advocacy of DSM, on addressing key issues in maternal and child nutrition through industry involvement; and
  • Louise Fresco, PhD, Incoming President, Wageningen University & Research centre, on meeting sustainable development goals through nutrition.
