Dance continues to dominate the holiday season with performances throughout the city. These performances are being presented in both theaters and historical landmarks in our community. Here are a few events taking place this weekend.
Ballet Hispanico will perform for the first time at the Apollo Theater on Saturday, December 17, 2011 at 2:00 PM and 8:00 PM. Tickets start at $28 and can be purchased at the Apollo Theater Box Office (253 West 125th Street) 212 531-5305, online at Ticketmaster.com or by calling Ticketmaster at 1-800-745-3000. The performance will feature live music by Grammy Award winners Arturo O’ Farrill and the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra. Artistic Director Eduardo Vilaro will present his first work for the company, an exuberant homage to the music of salsa legend Celia Cruz entitled Asuka.

Paul Winter presents the 32nd Annual Winter Solstice featuring Forces of Nature Dance Theatre at The Cathedral of Saint John the Divine 1047 Amsterdam Avenue (at 110 Street) on Thursday December 15, 8pm, Friday December 16, 8pm, Saturday December 17,2pm and 8pm. Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater ends their third week at New York City Center. The season will run through January 1st. Tickets start at $25 can be purchased online at AlvinAiley.org or NYCityCenter.org, by telephone 212- 581- 1212 and at the box office. Performances include:

Saturday December 17, 8pm: Streams (Ailey), Journey (Trisler), Home (Harris), Minus 16 (Naharin)
Sunday December 18, 3pm: Festa Barooca (Bigonzetti), The Hunt (Battle), Revelations with a cast of 50 (Ailey)
Sunday December 18, 8pm: Arden Court (Taylor), Takademe (Battle), Minus 16 (Naharin), Home (Harris) Proceeds benefit Dancers Responding to AIDS. There is also a special VIP ticket available for the December 18, 8pm performance, which includes VIP orchestra seating and a pre-performance reception.
