Police investigating the slaying of a promising young basketball player in Harlem may have found her killers.
Tyshawn Brockington and Robert Cartagena, 21, are wanted by police on charges that they shot and killed Tayshana “Chicken” Murphy, 18, early Sunday morning as she tried to run from the armed thugs.
Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said yesterday that surveillance video places both men at the scene. The tape shows both men had guns in their waistbands.
Police also arrested a third suspect, Terique Collins, 24, who they believe provided the suspects with the gun that shot Murphy.
Murphy was killed in the Grant Houses on West 125th Street at about 4:15 a.m. Sunday because she got mixed up in a dispute between her brother and violent thugs from the rival Manhattanville projects a few blocks north.
The killers spotted Murphy, who tried to flee up the stairs of her apartment building but was shot in the chest, hip and hand. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
