Six Supplements To Try to Speed Up Weight Loss

May 19, 2022

Weight loss has been a topic of serious contention for many individuals. When you are looking to lose weight, it is quite easy to turn to supplements and herbal remedies.

Though there is not much science to back up the effectiveness of such supplements, many swear by their results. This post is aimed at educating readers about the top supplements that help in reducing weight.

1. Chitosan

Found in the hard outer layers of crabs, shrimps, and lobsters, Chitosan is known to reduce weight by blocking the absorption of fat and cholesterol by the body. Though Chitosan does not have any negative side effects on the body, people with shellfish allergies should stay away from chitosan.

2. Guar Gum

Guar Gum is derived from the seeds of the guar plant. It is considered among the best fat burners for weight loss, akin to other dietary fibers. Guar Gum also functions by blocking the absorption of fat in the body. It also reduces the appetite by helping you feel full. Though it is quite effective, higher doses can lead to diarrhea and gas formation.

3. Glucomannan

Derived from the konjac plant, Glucomannan is a natural dietary fiber that prevents the body from absorbing fat. Though early studies point out its effectiveness, there are a few conflicting results from other research. One of the key side effects of Glucomannan is that it reduces the body’s ability to absorb medications. Therefore, it is advised to take Glucomannan one hour before or four hours after you take any medicine.

4. Green Tea Extract

This supplement works by reducing appetite and enhancing the fat and calorie metabolism in the body. However, physicians advise against heavy doses of green tea extracts as they can cause symptoms of nausea, dizziness, and diarrhea.

5. CLA or Conjugated Linoleic Acid

One of the most prominent supplements for weight loss, CLA is derived from the chemicals in the fatty acid known as linoleic acid. This supplement helps to reduce body weight and makes you feel full to prevent you from overeating. Though met with mixed reviews, a moderate amount of CLA intake can reduce body fat and enhance muscles in the body. However, long-term use is not advised as it can increase insulin resistance which can lead to type 2 diabetes. Also, higher doses of CLA can cause nausea and upset the stomach.

6. Chromium Picolinate

An effective fat burner, this mineral works by enhancing the function of insulin in the body which is the hormone responsible for converting food into energy. Chromium also helps the body to store proteins and carbohydrates as well. Studies claim that chromium supplements can help to burn calories, reduce body fat and lower your appetite. However, chromium supplements are not suitable for children and higher doses in adults can cause headaches and insomnia. Higher doses of chromium supplements are also attributed to kidney problems and people with any nephrological conditions should not consume chromium supplements.

Although weight loss with supplements in the diet is not an exact science, users should be always aware of the side effects of introducing supplements in their diets and must always talk with their doctors before trying any.
