Nigerian-British Bridal Couturier Kosibah Debut At NY Bridal Fashion Week

October 9, 2020

On Friday, October 9th, 2020, Nigerian-British couture bridal designer Yemi Osunkoya revealed the 2020 Kosibah Asheyori Bridal Collection.

Kosibah Bridal Collection is in a fashion segment and short film presentation online during New York Fashion Week.

New York Times writer Danielle Braff describes Kosibah as a designer who “creates gowns that are embellished with lace, Swarovski crystals and details that make them elegant, classic and a bit over the top.” And declares, “what really stands out about his gowns is that they’ve created for every body shape.”

The Fall 2021 line lives up to his reputation.

The Collection of eight gowns and one pantsuit are the label’s response to the need for more accessible gowns while still maintaining the Kosibah aesthetic which includes beaded lace appliques, a two-piece wrap peplum jacket with a soaring v-shaped neckline, internal corsets, and softly gathered ballgown skirts in layers of tulle, organza, and taffeta.

The name Asheyori derives from the Yoruba language which means Success Through Adversity, which is the birthing story of the collection during our current unprecedented times.  The dresses all have variations of Yoruba ‘Cherish’ names which have ‘ké’ which means love/care for/adore within them.

Established in London UK in 1991 and now based in Brooklyn NYC, Kosibah specializes in figure enhancing contemporary and elegant bridal gowns that curve, shape and flatter the wearer. This is achieved with our signature use of corsetry and drapery.

For bespoke gowns, the team at Kosibah is committed to providing exceptional quality of service and meticulous attention to detail. The designs, made from individual body measurements, use luxurious fabrics, sumptuous embellishments, and couture techniques.

They appeal to discerning clients who are accustomed to luxury products of the highest standards. The recently developed Ready To Wear line of 8 gowns and 1 trouser suit retain the Kosibah aesthetic, but at a more affordable price point and wider accessibility via selected bridal salons and online sales.

Kosibah has been featured in the media platforms from the NYTimes to the Knot to WWD NYLB 2020 to World Bride Magazine to a permanent display at the Brighton Museum in the UK to Fashionista and more while retaining an Atelier in London.
