Live From Lincoln Center Presents Broadway’s Brightest With Cynthia Erivo And Others

Live From Lincoln Center will welcome three of Broadway’s brightest stars— Cynthia Erivo, Annaleigh Ashford, and Megan Hilty—for the second season of the critically acclaimed Stars in Concert performance series on PBS. Each evening will spotlight one of these iconic leading ladies, combining powerhouse performances with an intimate cabaret-style setting.

Stars in Concert was filmed over three nights at The Appel Room at Jazz at Lincoln Center. All three concerts will air nationwide on PBS in hour-long episodes on consecutive Fridays in May, starting with Cynthia Erivo on Friday, May 10, followed by Annaleigh Ashford, with special guest Jake Gyllenhaal, on Friday, May 17, and concluding with Megan Hilty, with special guests Shoshana Bean and Eden Espinosa, on Friday, May 24. Each episode will also be available on the PBS app for 14 days following the premiere date.

In addition, three of last year’s inaugural concerts will re-air on PBS immediately following those mentioned above. Andrew Rannell’s 2018 special will air immediately following Ms. Erivo on the May 10, Leslie Odom Jr. after Ms. Ashford on the May 17, and Sutton Foster’s concert will conclude the series following Ms. Hilty on the May 24.*

Cynthia Erivo (May 10), Tony, Emmy, and Grammy Award winner for The Color Purple, recently finished filming the title role in Kasi Lemmons’ highly anticipated Harriet Tubman biopic Harriet. In 2018, she starred in Drew Goddard’s film, Bad Times at the El Royale, opposite Jeff Bridges and Steve McQueen’s Widows opposite Viola Davis. Annaleigh Ashford (May 17) won a Tony Award for her portrayal of “Essie” in the Broadway revival of You Can’t Take It with You and recently starred opposite Jake Gyllenhaal in Stephen Sondheim’s Sunday in the Park with George. She recently appeared on FX’s American Crime Story: Versace. Megan Hilty (May 24), Tony-nominee for Noises Off, is best known as “Ivy Lynn” from NBC’s Smash and for her starring role in Dolly Parton’s 9 to 5 The Musical. Hilty and Ashford wowed audiences during past Live From Lincoln Center New Year’s Eve broadcasts with the New York Philharmonic; Hilty in 2012 and Ashford in 2017.

The Artists

Cynthia Erivo – to air on PBS May 10, 2019

Bursting onto the scene with her star-making performance in The Color Purple, Cynthia Erivo already has a Tony, Grammy, and Emmy Award under her belt. She seamlessly transitioned from Broadway to film with Bad Times at the El Royale and Widows. Upcoming, Erivo stars in Chaos Walking, Needle in a Timestack and Harriet, where she will bring the legacy of Harriet Tubman to the big screen. Erivo will also executive produce and star in Warner Bros.’ Rip Van Winkle­ inspired movie musical. She is currently in production for the HBO series The Outsider. During this momentous time in her career, Erivo brings her rich vocals and radical talent to The Appel Room for a soulful evening of song.

Annaleigh Ashford – to air on PBS May 17, 2019

Described as “luminous” and “a sly comic genius” (New York Times), Broadway favorite Annaleigh Ashford has thrilled audiences in Sunday in the Park with George, Kinky Boots, and You Can’t Take It With You, for which she won a Tony Award. She also earned television fame with critically acclaimed turns on Masters of Sex and American Crime Story. For this special one-night engagement, Ashford lends her stunning vocals and comic verve to the gorgeous Appel Room, in an evening of mischevious fun.

Megan Hilty– to air on PBS May 24, 2019

With an operatic voice range and sunny charm, Tony-nominated songstress Megan Hilty is the epitome of musical stardom. After making her Broadway debut as Glinda in Wicked opposite Idina Menzel to critical acclaim, Hilty went on to star in Noises Off, 9 to 5, and NBC’s musical drama Smash. For one night only, the multifaceted artist brings her immense talents and infectious charisma to the twinkling Appel Room with a versatile set of songs celebrating favorite musical-theater composers and classic standards.
