Activists and lawmakers were at the Million Dollar Staircase in Albany, NY earlier this week to amplify support for the NY HEAT Act, which is a Caucus priority in the 2024 People’s Budget.
This initiative is vital in safeguarding low-income families from volatile gas prices and unnecessary expansion of gas infrastructure in the state.
The NY HEAT Act has the potential to save families up to $75 a month wrote the New York State Black, Puerto Rican, Hispanic, and Asian Legislative Caucus.
Senator Cordell Cleare, who spoke at the rally, stated “We have to make sure that we do not bring more harm to our communities. The NY HEAT Act is for our health, our communities and future generations.”
Assemblywoman Sarahana Shrestra also spoke at the event, stating “We need corporate utilities to understand that energy is a public good.”
