Working To Establish The Mayor’s Office Of Ethnic And Community Media

June 8, 2021

“I am proud to be working closely with Speaker Corey Johnson and Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams on Intro.2313, establishing the Mayor’s Office of Ethnic and Community Media.

I thank Chairman Cabrera for holding today’s Governmental Operations hearing discussing Intro.2313.

Our City is among one of the most diverse places in the world, with over 200 different languages spoken across the 5 boroughs.

There are hundreds of ethnic and local media who serve their communities on a consistent basis.

Many Spanish-speaking media outlets for instance receive a fraction of the City’s total advertising spending, even though they make up over 28 percent of the total city population.

We must support our local media outlets and ensure the City is working with them to advertise important information to all communities.

I will continue to work alongside Speaker Johnson, Brooklyn Borough President Adams, my colleagues, and advocates to ensure that we are supporting and including ethnic and community media within the conversations.”

States Council Member Ydanis Rodriguez.
