Paul Ryan To Visit Harlem’s Success Academy

May 8, 2017

Conservative golden boy and Republican Speaker of the House Paul Ryan is heading into enemy territory. Ryan will venture into deep-blue Manhattan on Tuesday to tour Success Academy in Harlem, according to multiple reports.

Sources with knowledge of the visit told sources, among other news outlets, that Ryan will visit the Success Academy location on West 118th Street, between Fifth Avenue and Malcolm X Boulevard. Staff members from a public school that shares the West 118th Street building told sources that NYPD officers informed them about the visit on Monday.

Ryan is not planning to visit the public school sharing the building on Tuesday, the teachers told the Daily News.

Success Academy has become somewhat of a poster boy for the charter-loving Republican administration. Ivanka Trump took a surprise visit of the Harlem charter school in November, and Success Academy CEO Eva Moskowitz was an early candidate to become Secretary of Education. Moskowitz defended the eventual secretary, Betsy DeVos, when she came under heavy criticism during confirmation hearings.
