HW Pick: Mushiya Tshikuka “Cutting It in the ATL” Diva To Host Watch Party In NYC

Mushiya TshikukaMushiya Tshikuka is the diva and founder of The Damn Salon and star of new WEtv show Cutting It in the ATL

Showcasing the beauty and battles of high-profile salons in Atlanta, Mushiya and her natural hair brand The Damn Salon provide a new perspective that hasn’t been often seen on prime time from Harlem to Harare.

During the season of Cutting It in the ATL, Mushiya is currently in NYC as one of the cities on her salon tour, “Taste of Damn.” She is discussing perceptions of natural hair in mainstream media, competition in the beauty industry, Atlanta salon culture, seasonal beauty trends for natural hair, and the inside scoop on reality TV.

As founder of The Damn Salon, Mushiya has married high-fashion, edgy aesthetics with celebration of women’s curly and kinky textures to usher in a “New Era” in natural hair. With risqué marketing (their tagline is “Hair That Causes Horny Husbands”) and bold styles that emphasize volume and funky pops of color, Mushiya and The Damn Salon have transformed attitudes toward natural hair across the nation, with their touring salon division, Taste of Damn, which hosts pop-up styling suites in cities like Oakland, Houston, New York, Washington D.C. and Charlotte.

Originally from the Congo, Mushiya came to the US by way of Montreal, which gives her worldwide flavor, like Harlem. As part of her mission to redefine the idea of natural hair and provide women with more options to celebrate curly and kinky textures, she launched Runway Curls, a line of 100% Human Hair and Blended extensions that flawlessly blend with natural curl patterns.

In the inaugural season of Cutting It In the ATL viewers will get to witnes Mushiya’s entrepreneurial strategies – which is inspiring to those who come across her. Season 1 reveals the behind the scenes launch of Runway Curls, including an exclusive photo shoot with celebrity photographer Derek Blanks. Premiering in the slot after “The Braxtons,”WEtv ordered additional episodes of Cutting It.

Cutting It in the ATL premiered on Thursday, May 21. The trailer and first two episodes can be viewed online at http://www.wetv.com/shows/cutting-it-in-the-atl/video. Also, Mushiya is hosting a Cutting It in the ATL Watch Party this Thursday, June 18, 2015, in NYC.
